I’d figure it won’t cost as much to get a used classic car, especially one that’s beat up a bit. That would give me time to work on the car myself, gain some experience along the way, and customize it to my own wants.

However, thinking about this makes me feel worried that it’s not a safe idea, due to the lack of safety features back then. I’d also have to learn on a manual, which I have no experience on. Lastly, how would insurance be?

It’s just an idea I haven’t put too much thought into, so if you all agree it’s a bad idea, I wouldn’t complain.
I was thinking of a 1970 Pontiac Trans Am. Is that a good idea? The only problem is I have no idea how to really work on cars. I don’t want to mess with the mechanical stuff, but I think I might be able to change the seats or something.

If you want to learn about old cars, the way to go is buy a simple Mustang 6 and learn as you go. Plus your investment will grow with the work and $ you put into it.

Credit Union is always the BEST way to go!!! Something people don’t know about credit unions is that they are a not-for profit organization so overall their rates are wayyyyy better than a traditional bank! & it’s even better to go to a dealership pre-approved for a loan, because since you cut have the paperwork/credit approval time in half… than those already thirsty salespeople will be dually eager to sell you a car at a better rate.

& if you do go the used car route… what Ed said up there is also super genius & correct. Buying from a private owner is the route I always take because alot of times people cannot afford payments on their cars so you can make a purchase on an awesome vehicle for their loan payoff ammount & save TONS in dealer costs. I always recommend & prefer private sellers over LARGE dealers.

I live in Minnesota and i need a website that has most of the local dealers that have used cars in just one website. I would prefer the cars less than $5,000 since i’m still in high school and i have to pay for it all in my own

I have had a lot of good luck buying cars through craigslist. No matter where you buy from make sure that you have an expert (trusted mechanic) look the car over before buying if you are unsure of your skill in detecting hidden issues.

I have a 2001 Ford Explorer Sports needed to be sold ASAP. Posting ads online arent working too well, so I’m thinking to sell the car to the dealers. But I don’t know how to find car dealers who would buy used cars from people. Does anyone know the way?? I live in Cleveland Ohio area. Or does anyone knows anybody wants to buy this type of car?

Thanks a lot.

Almost any dealer will. But you will get way below trade in value.

ive been driving for little over a year now and i want to buy a used classic car. i just cant drive my family’s 1997 for escort lx
my mom uses it alot and my dad drives his 1972 Ford LTD Country Squire and I like the country squire better than the both because it is a big American car thats what i like large sized cars . and the great sounding engine!

but i also like the the classic American muscle from 60’s to the 80’s

it needs to be cheap enough to maintain ( some of the things i can do my self oil change, wheels, lights etc.)

oh and besides your recommenced car please put a brief specifications list of what the car has ( hp,engine,interior etc.)

im young i don’t have the money to buy a brand new car! when i buy im buying used!

here are some of my favorite manufactures

*cadillac
* lincoln
* ford
* dodge
* cheverlet

any more a welcome

thanks for the help!

and can someone please explain what the different car body types are? like A,B,C,D
what are those body types?
what do they look like?

A CORVETTE is the ONLY muscle car ever built.

Looking for something to keep for years and years, enjoy during warm weekends and hope that it is collectible.

Choices are:

Porsche Boxster
Audi TT Quattro Roadster
Chrysler Crossfire (Coupe, Roadster, or SRT-6 Coupe)
2004-2006 Pontiac GTO
Dodge Ram SRT-10
Chevrolet SSR
2001-2003 Corvette Z06

Or should I buy an already classic car?

I don’t think any of the cars you listed will be a classic during your lifetime.

I’ll run thru your list real quick though and give you an opinion

The SRT-10 Ram is a joke… slow, very slow, poorly made… the newer ram is really nothing to lust for, ever. I drove one with 30K miles for a while to pick up a friends Kawasaki, and it was the worst truck I’d driven in a while. The "HEMI" was a joke, the doors buffeted in the wind, etc…

The SSR is loved by some, I guess they enjoy the fact that it closely resembles a clown…

The Crossfire SRT-6 is an okay little car, but it all ways comes in last when its compared to the other roadsters in that market. Its a worked-over Mercedes SLK underneath, nothing new.

The GTO, hm… never will be a classic, I’ll tell you why.. there are hundreds of thousands of them in Australia and elsewhere with Vauxhaul badges on them. Not that its not a great car, but the new ones I doubt will go up in value for at least 50 years.

Boxster, hm. Slooow Porsche. Generally referred to as the girl Porsche. Easily out performed by many cars its compared to, like the BMW M3, S2000, etc. It is a Porsche yes, but again I don’t see it going up in value soon.

The Audi TT Roadster is a great car, esp if you looking at the V6 with the DSG6 gearbox. A real sports car. The value of it is questionable though.

Ahhh Z06… no platform sharing, as is the case with all of the other choices other than the Boxster, its made with one purpose as well, and not a compromise like most of the other cars here. Your best bet a retaining value, and possibly increasing in the future. Being a Chevrolet it will probably plummet for a decade or so at least. Especially because its newer badder brother the C6 Z06 does everything it does better and has been recognized as a real threat to the supercar manufactures. However, it is the best performer you listed and the most respected across the board be it a foreign or local crowd, dragrace, circuit or cruise.
If you buy a nice one with low low miles and maybe a few rare options, like I think they were available one year with red interior, I would put my money on it for being the most valuable of your choices, and also the one to retain and increase in value the soonest.

Just my opinion. =)
